What a treat it has been to be here at Sewanee! One of our favorite things about Sewanee is the little 1950's elementary school that sits right in the middle of the college campus. Cosmetically the school probably hasn't changed since it was built, but the teachers and staff are great! The kids love school and all their friends, but the most favorite thing about school right now is the fact that Isaac can ride his bike there and back. HE LOVES IT! Mary B. isn't quite there yet, but that's okay because she gets the front seat of daddy's car every morning and afternoon (HEAVEN)!
Last Thursday night was a huge event at school... OUR VERY FIRST SCHOOL PLAY! It was really special to us because it was specifically for Kindergarten and First graders. Which meant Isaac and Mary B. were participating in it together! You can't even imagine how excited we have all been. Reciting lines, learning songs, and doing so with as much drama and facial expression as possible (not my kids right?). They did so great!
I don't mean to get all mushy and stuff, but this event was so monumental to me and our family life! As I sat on one side of the stage with Emma, I looked across the room at Bubba holding Izzy, and I thought "as crazy as it can be sometimes this is my family, and my life, and I love these moments!" I thought back to how hard it has been at times raising the kids, feeding them, bathing them, and putting them to bed! I thought about how hard it had been just this week and I thought back 5 years ago at how hard it was when Isaac and Mary B. were that little. It doesn't mean I didn't love being their mom, I did! It just seemed like life, at times, was so routine and tiring. It is still hard with Izzy and Emma still being so little, but my point is... I survived it and I can do it again! When that curtain went back and I saw my two precious little kids standing there with the biggest grin singing a song they were so proud to sing, I KNEW I WAS LIVING OUT GOD'S PURPOSE and surviving it in the process! I was making some progress through motherhood, and reaping the benefits of a proud mama! I know how retarded I sound... but I am just so thankful for my life! As much as I complain and probably will come Monday morning, moments like this, remind me that God is good and that he has blessed me with some precious kids! AND I DO HAVE A GREAT PURPOSE! During the play Bubba and I looked at each other across the room in our little 1950's school and realized our kids are growing up, and we can't stop it!
So I have posted a couple of videos of their play about "SPRINGTIME!" Mary B. sang and did hand motions about planting, so cute! Isaac was dressed as a rapper singing about "WEEDS", we couldn't believe how expressive he was! So without further a due... "Springtime" with the Smith kids!

What a great reminder! I love reading your posts! And you update them so well...your kids are great. Let me know if you figure out how to keep them from growing up! Love you.
Hey Cortney! I found your blog on your Facebook page. I was just reading your post... It brought tears to my eyes. And, I loved the clips of the school play. My daughter, Mary Grace, is in Kindergarten this year and they are doing the exact same play. We were just singing the "weed rap" tonight at supper.
