Happy Birthday Gooddaddy!

So we have been going non-stop around this house since Bubba's season ended at the end of February. There are so many different things I want to share and show you! Before I go any further with other fun stories and trips that have occurred I wanted to pay much respect and appreciation to the month of February. This was the month that my grandfather was born! Sadly he passed away two years ago in December we have missed him very much.
On Sunday last week, Dad asked me to run out to my grandparents old house to take some pictures. They are trying to rent the house out right now and needed to get some good shots of it. We were on our way out to Goodlettsville anyway for a fun lunch date, so I dropped Bubba off at the grocery store to pick up some stuff and I ran up the street to one of my most cherished places as a kid! My full intention was to get some quick pictures of the house and hurry back to grab Bubba, as I know how fast he works in a grocery store. When I approach that sweet little house full of such wonderful memories of Christmas, spend the night parties, weeks with the grandparents, and the hill we would inch up in anticipation of a big hug from Mums and Gooddaddy.... my heart just hung there for a few minutes! I got out of the car and I sat there for a moment, It was a beautiful day! I begin to get little tears in my eyes, thinking of my grandfather and how much he loved his garden, which is now withered and grown over.It made me so happy to think of all the potatoes and green beans pulled out of there. I can remember the snap of those beans and the dirt on his hands. He loved that garden. This was the beautiful peach tree that he loved! I can remember so many times him yelling from the yard to the house "Cortney, come on out here and get one of my peaches!" I really wasn't very excited about trying bruised up peaches, but every once in awhile he would pull a real sweet one and the taste of it left me with some of my best memories! These pine trees were planted when I was just a little kid! On Sunday when I was there I could picture him kneeling over in the ground, pouring with sweat and just planting away! Everything he touched grew and became more beautiful! Look how big they are now!The white picket fence, although our neighbors, was a distinct part of this house and who he was. The neighbors who actually owned this fence and driveway lived quite a ways up from my grandparents. Gooddaddy would talk about his friend Mr. Phillips quite often. The funny thing is I don't know how well they actually knew each other, but to my grandfather they were the good friends. He had nothing but kind words for everyone he knew. He never met a stranger! That's who he was "every one's best friend," and everyone loved my grandfather. He made you feel important, whether you were or not! Finally this is the precious bench where Gooddaddy would sit and look out over the pond. He loved this spot. This is one of the first things I saw as I approached the house on Sunday. It made me cry. His view of life was so simple and sweet, so very special! The kids were in the car with me so I tried to explain how much I valued this little house, kinda like their grandparents. The memories I formed there are forever sketched in my head and heart. I loved that place so much. I loved my Gooddaddy so much! I miss him dearly now, but still feel so blessed to have Mums here to cherish and think about the good ole' times. What a strong woman she is, and know she credits Gooddaddy for that. He made her believe in herself, he made us all believe in ourselves.
It's funny how sometimes you can't appreciate the simplicity of life when your young, you just don't see it... playing outside, eating peaches off trees, and picking green beans. Gooddaddy, you taught me so much, more than I ever realized. You made me believe in myself, you showed me the simple pleasures of life, you made life funny and taught us all to laugh. You are my sweet Gooddaddy and I will always miss and love you!
